military grant for soldiers who are getting out of the military and buying a house?

Q. Has any one heard anything about the military giving soldiers who are getting out money to put towards buying a house??? And where could i get the info on it?

A. Never heard of that. The only thing I am aware of is the VA loan and that isn't giving money to get a house it is to get the loan. http://www.valoan.com/

Can a military college grant be transferred to a dependent?
Q. My dad was in the air force and he just heard back from them that they're offering to pay for him to go back to school. He's in his 50's, though, so he doesn't want to go back to school so we were trying to find out if he could use that money for me. I'm 17 and a senior in high school, so of course I'm planning on going to college. Would that money be okay for me to use since I'm his dependent? Or is it just for him whether or not he wants to use it?

A. I'm not sure. As your VA rep at your school.

I would say NO, since he was the veteran and not dead.

Does the military offer grants to help pay for spouses college?
Q. My fiance is in the Navy and the only thing that is holding us back from getting married is my college (I have it paid for as long as im not married). Im not trying to be selfish by asking this I am just wondering if there are any grants or assistance provided for military spouses. I saw somewhere on a previous post that they provide something im just not sure what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A. The best answers you'll get are from reps from the Navy. If you can, try talking to your fiance's recruiter to see if he can answer your questions or direct you to someone who can. There is a program called MyCAA that offers up to $6,000 for military spouses to further their education. There are also multiple programs that help military spouses with assistance, some government-run, some privately run. My hubby and I are headed overseas next year, and I recently discovered that the military provides tuition assistance of up to $4500 per calendar year for military spouses who are overseas. This does not apply to stateside assignments, so definitely something to keep in mind when choosing bases! But again, best to get your information from the recruiter since he'll likely have more up-to-date and accurate information. In the meantime, doesn't hurt to use the internet. Try searching phrases like "military spouse scholarship", "military spouse grant", "military spouse tuition assistance", etc and you should come up with some pretty good information that way as well.

**Edit** The Post 9/11 GI Bill allows the active duty servicemember to transfer part or all of his GI Bill to dependents (spouses & children), BUT--he must serve at least 10 years on active duty. Pretty sure this applies to all branches, but I'd ask the recruiter to be sure (my hubby is Air Force).

Should only those that serve in the military be granted the ability to vote?
Q. Only those that are willing to fight for America should be allowed to choose the leaders of tomorrow.

A. That and those that actually pay taxes!

Where can I apply or find valid grants from the gov or military grants for veterans?
Q. Just looking where I can find valid sites where I can find valid grants ???specifically for nursing I Dont really know how its supposed to work or how the process works...background I am a veteran and am interested in nursing but the schools want to go to they dont take federal benefiets as the GI BILL but are accredited. through BVNPT OF CA.

A. To apply for federal financial aid go to http://fafsa.ed.gov
Here is a good book describing all the different kinds of grants and student loans you can get by applying:
http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/attachments/siteresources/FundingEduBeyondHighSchool_0910.pdf

You might want to check to see if your school has the privilege of accepting these federal loan on your behalf by looking up the school on this website. If they are not listed, you need to RUN, not walk to the nearest real school. There are a number of reasons why a school can't get federal funding and none of them are in your favor... accredited or not.
